BREAKING NEWS: FILMS UNDERAPPRECIATED!

Hi all,

So here is my rant about the underappreciated film industry.

That might sound stupid because clearly the industry is appreciated. What with the millions of dollars it makes. BUT I have a point, just let me get to it.

Now, when I watch a film I watch a film. I don’t sit there and wait for something to make me laugh (i.e. poor Adam Sandler joke or Will Ferrell falling over something. Don’t get me wrong I love both those actors but not in every movie I watch) or for something to make me cry (i.e. Channing Tatum valiantly pulling of his shirt to save his damsel in high fashion distress. Don’t get me wrong. I loooove Channing Tatum AND high fashion but not in every movie I watch) A movie to me is about the acting (raw, channelled heartfelt acting) cinematography (oh God I love Cinematography. Like in Real Steel when Hugh Jackman is looking at his kid across the pathway or that moment in Daybreakers when the vampires are all attacking each other at once in slow motion. C’mon you’re gonna make a boy emo crey) Lighting, Directing, Sound, Score, Visual effects etc (I decided not to bore you with an example for every point)

These are the aspects that bring a movie together. ALL these aspects. And I really hate watching a movie with someone that doesn’t appreciate the industry. Or watches a brilliant movie like The Reader (the movie is just as good as the book, I can say that) and they don’t care for it because they’re too creeped out that Kate Winslet is banging some kid. Who cares?! Everyone knows its creepy but we appreciate it because that’s part of the characters journey within the storyline. He’s just as f’d up as her! But people don’t see it from that perspective. And I want to understand why? Movies are amazing! Why would you want to restrict yourself to one genre or to look past all the effort the director and crew did for the movie? It’s not their day and night job for nothing. There are so many layers to movies that people don’t see. WHY YOU NO SEE?!

Ok so I think I’m done with this for now or I will just overwhelm myself. So there you go, read at your own peril. Except it’s the end of the rant now and you probably would have read it all by now. Unless you skipped to this paragraph. And in that case CURSE YOU!

Peace.

P.S. Did anyone else feel high throughout The Runaways?
